Infoteca-e
AMARAL, E. F. do; BROWN, I. F.; MELO, A. W. F. de.

Effect of wildfire on soil physical and chemical properties in a Nothofagus glauca forest, Chile RChHN
LITTON,CREIGHTON M.; SANTELICES,RÓMULO.
Effects of a wildfire on soil chemical and physical properties in a Nothofagus glauca (Phil.) Krasser forest in the Coastal Mountain Range of south-central Chile were investigated. Response of the soil during the first two years following a wildfire was examined, where data from soil in a burned forest were compared to that in an adjacent, unburned stand. The effects that wildfire have on soil properties in this highly fragmented ecosystem are not well understood, but results from this study suggest similar responses to those found in other mediterranean forest systems. Both physical (bulk density, percent soil moisture, and soil organic matter content) and chemical properties (exchangeable inorganic nitrogen, extractable phosphorus, exchangeable...

Relationships between microbial activity and soil physical and chemical properties in native and reforested Araucaria angustifolia forests in the state of São Paulo, Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Pereira,Jamil de Morais; Baretta,Dilmar; Bini,Daniel; Vasconcellos,Rafael L. de F.; Cardoso,Elke Jurandy Bran Nogueira.
Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze is the main component of the Mixed Ombrophilous forest and, in the State of São Paulo, it is associated with a high diversity of soil organisms, essential for the maintenance of soil quality, making the conservation of this ecosystem a major and pressing challenge. The objective of this study was to identify the physical and chemical properties that are most closely correlated with dehydrogenase enzyme activity, basal respiration and microbial biomass under native (NF) and replanted (RF) Araucaria angustifolia forests in three regions of the state of São Paulo, in winter and summer. The main differentiating factors between the areas were also determined. Each forest was represented by three true replications; at...

Tropical soils characterization at low cost and time using portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF): Effects of different sample preparation methods Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Sérgio Henrique Godinho; Silva,Elen Alvarenga; Poggere,Giovana Clarice; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Curi,Nilton.
ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF) has been recently adopted by the Soil Science community for uses in both field and laboratory, obtaining the total content of several chemical elements in a few seconds. Sulfuric acid digestion is an expensive and time-consuming laboratory analysis that provides contents of Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and P2O5, important for soil studies. Due to few pXRF studies in tropical soils, this work aimed to compare contents of Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and P2O5 obtained by pXRF with sulfuric acid digestion results, and to evaluate the effects of varying forms of preparing soil samples and scanning with pXRF on the resulting values in Brazilian soils. Soils were scanned in five conditions in-field (in situ) and...

The objective of this experiment was to study the effect of preceding legume-upland rice planting on soil fertility before succeeding sugarcane planting. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The treatments were: (1) Control (2) Upland rice (rice planting without chemical fertilizer) (3) Upland rice + F (rice planting with chemical fertilizer) (4) Soybean (5) Sun hemp. Soil data were collected at 0-15 cm soil depth for chemical analysis before experiment. At 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 weeks after planting, soil were sampled for soil mineral N analysis by Flow Injection Analyzer (FIA). Soil samples were collected at the preceding crop harvest were analyzed for chemical properties which showed that soil mineral N...
